Antinori nel Chianti Classico

Antinori nel Chianti Classico is one of 9 estates under the Marchesi Antinori company. It won the award for the Best Vineyard in the World 2022, and it's no surprise since they've been in the wine making business since 1385. The winery opened in 2012 and is made from locally sourced materials allowing the structure to fit into the surrounding environment effortlessly. The building is unique, with a large spiral staircase connecting the different levels. On parts of the roof, there is grass and even vineyards. Most of the vineyards on site are planted with Chianti Classico’s most typical grape, Sangiovese. They've also got other varieties that were historically planted nearby: Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Nera, and Mammolo.

When I visited in 2018, I did a tasting in the beautiful wine shop where you can taste by the glass. They also offer a variety of guided tours, tastings and experiences depending on what you're looking for. After tasting 3 different types (Tignanello, Guado al Tasso and Solaia) we went up to the the roof where their signature restaurant Rinuccio 1180 is. It is stunning, with wide windows giving diners incredible views of the Tuscan hillside. We enjoyed lunch with a bottle of Il Bruciato, a tagliere, a pasta with duck ragu and one with truffle and for our main course we split a steak. The whole day was a 10/10 experience.
